Under the Red Umbrella a celebration of women in the arts, is now in its fourth year. This year Embellish!, Cardino Shoes, Bistro 161, and Fabrications are representing seven local artists.
At Cardino Shoes, Jean is hosting two artists whose work will be placed among her own collection of this season’s fabulous shoes and boots. Tacy Rockwell is a collage artist Jean has worked with before. Her intimate work in textural use of cloth and paper hold beautiful colour stories. Eliza Faulkner has trained at Central St. Martin’s College of Art and Design in London where she graduated in Fashion Design and Marketing in 2008. Eliza will be showing some of her design sketches and samples from her current collections.
Over at Embellish! Lesley is showing the work of three artists who work in three different mediums. Pipi Tustian’s original pieces of ‘functional art’ – banners, tablecloths, table runners, napkins, curtains, pillows and chair cushions – are all hand painted wonders reflecting the light and colour of each season. Susan Whitham’s Ceramic art are also both decorative and functional. Creating unique clay pieces with strong, bold patterning, Susan builds everything from coffee cups to lamps. Crystal Heath is a painter who explores a range from bold realism to colourful abstract.
Fabrications is hosting local artist Margitta Ben-Oliel. Margitta is a photographer, printmaker, writer, and poet. This show takes us on a journey across the globe with many studies of women and nature in photography, acrylic, oil, and charcoal.
Down the street at Bistro 161, Fatima is showing Coco Jones. Always bold and bright, Coco’s new works are dynamic displays of the gratitude of life and living.
Fabrications, Cardino Shoes, and Embellish! will be offering refreshments and a 10% off store wide sale for the night. Bistro 161 is hosting a $15 tapas menu after 7 o’clock. Under the Red Umbrella, celebrates Art, Food, Fashion and Décor all in one inspirational night.
